One Skirt Styled Four Ways: Victoria Beckham for Target Black & White Skirt

One Skirt Styled Four Ways: Victoria Beckham for Target Black & White Skirt | Designing From My Closet

Whenever I purchase an article of clothing, I try to imagine how many ways I can wear it with items already existing in my closet.  My ideal is to be able to style a piece at least three different ways.  When I got the black & white striped tulip skirt from the Victoria Beckham collection at Target, I knew the neutral colors would pair with the many colorful tops I have and that the shape would be fun enough for me to want to wear it again and again.  Today I have styled this skirt four different ways to show how I am wearing it.

Wearing Pastels in the Fall

Wearing Pastels in the Fall | Designing From My Closet

Fall fashion is typically associated with deep rich colors that usher in a new season.  Pastels on the other hand are usually seen more in the spring and summer months, so mixing them into fall outfits are a fun way to keep things from getting boring, especially here at the end of the fall season when you are looking at the same items over and over again.  Today I am wearing a mauve pleated skirt in a fall look.

Metallic Skirt: Styled Four Ways for Daytime

Metallic Skirt: Styled Four Ways for Daytime | Designing From My Closet

Metallic skirts have been having a comeback and I was one that thought there was no way one could fit into my wardrobe.  After all, there are only so many parties you can go to in a glittery skirt.  When I tried one on from the Who What Wear Collection at Target, I was surprised to come up with so many ideas about how it could actually be a functional piece for every day wear.  Today I am showing you four ways to style a metallic skirt for daytime.  This post is going to be a bit more picture heavy and light on the text because it is already huge.  Enjoy!

The Skirt That Could Have Been

The Skirt That Could Have Been | Designing From My Closet | Plus & Inbetweenie Fashion Blog

If you are not aware by some of my previous ReFashion and DIY posts I have done in the past, I love to get secondhand items or items I am no longer wearing from my closet and turn them into something new.  And that was the entire idea behind purchasing an Eloquii textured yellow skirt off of Poshmark.  There was a skirt I had seen at Anthropologie with a large painted flower on it and I wanted to create one of my own in a size that would fit me.  I was overjoyed to say the least when I first received the skirt and tried it on immediately.  Since it was a midi skirt, I also had plans to shorten it to knee length as well as paint it myself and show off my skills in a blog post to you!

Laser Cut {Using Pieces from Seasons Past}

Mynt 1792 Navy Blue Laser Cut Skirt with a Quilted White Top from Old Navy, Leopard Tasseled Scarf from LOFT, Tortoiseshell & Turquoise Bracelet from Charming Charlie, Snake Print Clutch from JCPenney, and Brown Pierced Leather Wedges from Franco Sarto | Designing From My Closet | Plus Size & Inbetweenie Fashion Blog

When I first began Designing From My Closet I soon realized how important it was to stay true to myself. As much as I love looking at the latest trends, I never want to loose sight of my authentic style. Sometimes this means wearing pieces that are not from the current season.  That is precisely why I keep certain items in my wardrobe for many years and why I purchase second hand.Mynt 1792 Navy Blue Laser Cut Skirt with a Quilted White Top from Old Navy, Leopard Tasseled Scarf from LOFT, Tortoiseshell & Turquoise Bracelet from Charming Charlie, Snake Print Clutch from JCPenney, and Brown Pierced Leather Wedges from Franco Sarto | Designing From My Closet | Plus Size & Inbetweenie Fashion Blog

This dark blue laser cut midi skirt is a recent addition to my closet via the SBR Pop Up I attended several weeks ago in LA. I got this Mynt 1792 beauty from the gorgeous Nicolette Mason (yes, I got to meet her!) It is circa 2014, but for me, it translates perfectly to the here and now and more importantly, fits my personal aesthetic.Mynt 1792 Navy Blue Laser Cut Skirt with a Quilted White Top from Old Navy, Leopard Tasseled Scarf from LOFT, Tortoiseshell & Turquoise Bracelet from Charming Charlie, Snake Print Clutch from JCPenney, and Brown Pierced Leather Wedges from Franco Sarto | Designing From My Closet | Plus Size & Inbetweenie Fashion Blog

I recently posted on Instagram three ways how I was planning on styling this new-to-me skirt. For its first time out to play I chose to pair it with a boxy quilted top in white that I recently purchased at Old Navy. I love the snake embossed texture on the front and the stark contrast between the light top and dark bottom.

To add a bit of the blue up towards my face, I selected my leopard scarf with tassels. This is a second hand piece as well that I got about a year ago at a local consignment shop. For jewelry I added a tortoiseshell and turquoise bracelet I got last week from the Charming Charlie clearance rack.

A snake skin print clutch I got over eight years ago at JCPenney completes this ensemble. I have considered purging this piece in the past and I am so glad I didn’t. It gets used way too much.Mynt 1792 Navy Blue Laser Cut Skirt with a Quilted White Top from Old Navy, Leopard Tasseled Scarf from LOFT, Tortoiseshell & Turquoise Bracelet from Charming Charlie, Snake Print Clutch from JCPenney, and Brown Pierced Leather Wedges from Franco Sarto | Designing From My Closet | Plus Size & Inbetweenie Fashion Blog

I simply adore how the laser cut skirt gives a hint of skin and gives such an interesting detail to this look.  It is so incredibly soft and well made. I can see why this brand retails at a higher price point because it is made with such quality.

Do you purchase second hand to keep your wardrobe fresh?  Do you have certain pieces that you still use after a long time?
