How to Create a Head to Toe Outfit

How to Create a Head to Toe Outfit | Designing From My Closet

When shopping, we typically select items one at a time.  Whether online or in store, each individual piece is evaluated by our own personal taste, fit, and budget.  After the purchase, that item goes into our closet with the hopes it will become an active part of our wardrobe and be integrated into what we already have.  It takes vision to look at a computer screen with a garment worn by a model or mannequin and imagine what it will look like on us and what it will look like paired with other items we own.  It takes an equal amount of vision to stand in the middle of a store full of clothes and picture this one item at home, going with the rest of our closet.

Today I wanted to go through a process I go through when I bring home items from the store to create a head to toe outfit.  It is easy to get something and then feel like it has no potential in real life so I wanted to take a bit of the mystery out of it and provide an easy step by step formula to follow.

Ready for my Lattice & Greens

Finding day dresses can sometimes be a challenge.  I find that a lot of dresses are either too dressy or way too plain.  When I saw this jade green midi dress, I knew I found just the right combination of a casual look with a whole lot of interest.La Jolla Dress | Designing From My Closet

This particular dress is a one size fits most kinda deals, and the belt cinches in this free flowing dress which made it extremely comfortable.  Being short waisted, the neckline came down a little low on me, like most dresses.  To combat overexposing, I layered a simple ivory tank underneath.  Speaking of the neckline, this open lattice work is one of the biggest reasons I loved this piece.  It is like a built in necklace.

The vibrant green color is a favorite of mine as it has been ever since grade school.  Every time I see a piece of clothing boasting it, I just am like a moth to a flame.La Jolla Dress | Designing From My Closet

If you have not caught on by some of my previous posts, I am a belt lover.  I have a full collection in my accessory closet.  I was overjoyed when this dress came with a coordinating belt.  The beading on the front medallion is just exquisite.  It brought back fond memories of traveling through Arizona as a child with my family and stopping by the Native American stands on the side of the road where they had treasures in turquoise.  It gives a nod to this part of my heritage as well.La Jolla Dress | Designing From My Closet

I love how the color from the belt is captured down into the sandals in this look.Green Dress E

This dress will be in high rotation this summer and then with a jacket in the fall because it is so comfortable.
