About Designing From My Closet

Designing a wardrobe as unique as you.

Do you want to love everything in your closet?

Hi, I’m Janeane, an interior designer turned wardrobe stylist, doggie mom, and recovering “uniform outfit” addict.  My mission here on Designing From My Closet is to provide inspiration and style tips to every woman and to help them step out of their comfort zone.

At first, DFMC was a way to express my own love of fashion with other ladies and over the years it has evolved into a space for women to come together and gain confidence through their wardrobes.

For many years I thought that I had to wear certain types of clothing to cover my flaws instead of focusing on my personal style.  I ended up getting into a style rut, wearing the same thing over and over again, just in a different color.  When I began to explore the possibilities out there and trying clothes on that I used to dismiss thinking “I could never pull that off” I discovered an entirely new side of myself.

Having an education in interior design, color theory and design principals have formed a basis for pulling outfits together in the same manner of pulling a room together.  By allowing each woman’s unique personality and character to shine through, I believe confidence follows.

    1. Thank you Sheila! I need to look at my About page again. I remember writing a novel when I began my blog and am not sure if anything has changed since then. 🙂 Thank you for visiting my blog!

      1. I was thinking about listing on Poshmark and came across your blog!! I must say this is the best I’ve seen so far! You are right on and you’re an excellent writer. Clear and to the point. Thank you so very much for your tips!!

  1. Hi Janeane! I was just turned on to your blog by Liz from with wonder and whimsy, and you speak many of my issues too- larger thighs and arms. Really a pain sometimes! Anyway, just wanted to let you know I like your blog and will start reading it! Take acare!

    1. Hi Dona! Welcome and thank you for commenting. Yes, I think every woman has issues with fit due to all the different body shapes we have. Thankfully I have been able to find some really great things that work with these arms and legs! It’s great to have you here and I look forward to hearing from you in the future. And please, if you ever have a certain topic you want me to cover, let me know.

  2. Hi Janeane: I agree with all the aforementioned praises of your work! A quick question: would you suggest a slower launching with items being posted at regular intervals or a large number of items all at once? Thank you for kindly answering! Judith

    1. Well, I have to admit, I have done a little of both. When I had over a hundred items to list when I first began I would list around 5-8 items every day. Once I was finally done with that, I now edit my closet every so often and list everything all at once, unless it is a lot, then I split it up. I never have done the slow, one listing at a time approach because it did not make sense for me. Once I was in “Poshmark selling mode”, I wanted to make it worth my time. I also noticed that sometimes people would snatch things up in bundles that way because they did not want to miss out. I hope that helps!

      1. Thank you so much, Janeane! Your advice is very logical, especially based on your experience! I love your modeling – your personality and fashion flair really shines through!
I have found two poshers that I am using as guides – I am glad I found you!
It will still be a bit of time before I post items; I will let you know when I do just out of interest
I so much appreciate the opportunity to get to know you through your site and your kind and quick response. Best wishes to you, Judith

  3. Really enjoy your videos and blog posts! I wish I had met someone like you when I first moved to OC. It was such a change from my previous lifestyle that I struggled with putting myself together in acceptable clothing. I could revert to my old style on the weekends but the work week was really a challenge! I don’t work now which limits my clothing budget but I’m grateful now that I can relax and wear whatever I want.
