Wide Width, Wide Calf Boots from Avenue

A few weeks ago I did a collaborative post with my gal pals from Orange County and today we are back together!  Please welcome Veronica of Cid Style File, Bianca of Bianca Vaccarini, and Nina of Curvy Mod once more to Designing From My Closet.  One topic that came up between the four of us was that of wide calf boots.  As a woman who has always had larger legs, I could so relate to the struggle to finding tall boots that actually fit.  I have had many a disappointing shopping sessions on the hunt for them only to find that they just will not zip up.  Avenue has such a great range of wide width, wide calf boots that they partnered with us to show you four current styles that they have available right now.

As for me, I selected the Marnie Over the Knee Boot in the Cognac color.  They also come in black.  Believe it or not, Southern California has actually been rather cold and rainy recently and it is something I have been thrilled about.  We do not get to experience much of any season, so this is a welcome change.  Because of this, boots have been a must for keeping my legs and feet warm and cozy.

This over the knee style has been different for me to wear and I am enjoying them tremendously.  I read over the reviews previous to me ordering them and they were mixed.  Several had mentioned that they were way too large in the calf and that they felt like they looked like pirate boots.  I found it so refreshing to slip these tall boots on and not have them too tight around my thigh right above my knee.  They did not sag over, but were loose around the knee to enable me to walk and sit comfortably without any discomfort.  As far as the whole “swash buckler” reference, I can see how if you do not used to the back back behind the knee with the flap dipping down, some may feel that way.  As for me, I love the look and never once felt uncomfortable with the style.

I styled my boots for their first wear (I have worn them almost every day after as well) with white denim, blue knit top, and red printed bomber jacket.  I wish these jeans would have been a little more fitted and not as baggy as they were for this particular look.  These over the knee boots look fabulous with skinny jeans, leggings, as well as shorter skirts and dresses.  So far I have not styled them with a skirt or dress, but I am looking forward to doing that.

  1. Thanks for this post! I wear a regular shoe, but I need wide calf boots for my short, muscular legs. I am always looking for new places to try.
