Velvet: The Most Comfortable Pants in the World

Velvet: The Most Comfortable Pants in the World | Designing From My Closet

When I started seeing velvet flood the fashion world, my mind went back to the 90s when I had a crushed velvet dress that I felt gorgeous in.  Those feelings brought up memories of a special time in my younger years.  Velvet can be extremely dressy and I wanted to create a look that could be worn during the day as well as transition into the evening.

Let me first explain to you how comfortable these wide leg velvet pants are from the Who What Wear collection at Target.  My father-in-law always talks about that commercial with the most interesting man in the world, so my mind instantly went to…these are the most comfortable pants in the world when I first put these on.  Now that can be good, and also bad as they could easily go very lounge wear/upscale pajama with their pull on style and large tassel rope tie at the waist.  It is great that they come in plus and straight sizes as well as in black.

To take all the good qualities of these ever so soft, dark gray beauties, I paired it with some minimal heels with a chunky heel.  The camel colored shoes give a more relaxed day tone while the style goes somewhat dressy.  They are a nice in-between type of shoe.  I love the contrast between the two neutrals as well.

I also wore a rose pink bomber jacket which is actually a jacket I have shown here on the blog before, but this time I used the reverse side.  While the style and cut give a casual vibe, the satiny finish provides a lovely pairing with the velvet.  A printed velvet cami in a darker merlot is a beautiful backdrop for my rose quartz necklace from The Two Hand Exchange.

I love how the leaf motif on my Old Navy stretch bracelet picks up on the leaves in the necklace and cami.  To complete this daytime velvet outfit, I selected a blush fold over clutch with a tassel that is both day and evening appropriate.  This is an older style from the Who What Wear collection as well.  By removing the jacket, untucking the top, and adding a darker lip color, this outfit transforms into a great going out look.  The cami has delicate black lace trim on both the neckline and hem that is so very pretty.

  1. I really love this look! How wonderful that velvet has made a comeback. I think all through the 80s and 90s I had a new velvet dress every Christmas. I felt so pretty and elegant in them, and they flowed so beautifully. I love seeing velvet back, but in such a great versatile way. You’ve done a great job of showing off that versatility…both the dressy and the casual.

    1. I know! You just can’t help but feel elegant in velvet. And I love seeing it back as well. I love this mix of being able to wear it in a daytime way.
