Stripes and florals are two prints that one of the easiest I find to mix. Having one common color is all you really need. Today’s outfit is a fun casual look for the weekend or even a more relaxed workplace. When I put this outfit on, I knew I wanted to take pictures and was a little disillusioned when I stepped outside and it was still raining. As I was taking these under the patio cover, I was thinking about my blog and how far it has come. Today marks two years of Designing From My Closet and what began as a temporary fun thing to do turned into a blossoming business. I so appreciate everyone who reads, comments, and follows my blog and I hope to bring informational and entertaining content. There are so many things I am working on right now and I wanted to share five of them with you in today’s post too.
First, the outfit! I really do love stripes and floral together. This navy and white stripe tee goes so well with this large floral scarf that I got at Old Navy a while ago.
The greenery on the floral print is actually a navy blue which ties in perfectly with the top. For my feet I pulled my flat zipper booties out that have not seen the light of day since last winter. They could not be more happy all snug as a bug in these comfy cuties.
A camel colored boyfriend style cardigan and purple clutch that pulls colors from the scarf add just enough punch without taking away from the star of the show, which is obviously the scarf.
You will probably be seeing these white jeans quite a few more times this year as I do not put them away for the fall and winter months. I love seeing the crisp white against rich fall tones as well as pastels that happened to be very on trend for this season.
All of my items are no longer available, but I pulled a few fun floral scarves and striped tops that would look great together just like my combo.
Since it is my 2 year blogiversary, I have been reflecting back from where I started and also where I am going. Here are five things I am working on right now:
1-Realizing that it’s alright to not have amazing professional looking photographs. It seems like I get the comparison bug every once in a while and one point of contention with me is that I don’t have the most fancy pictures. Gorgeous locations, excellent quality, perfect lighting, and a variety of angles and close ups have always been a vision of mine. I have come to realize that what is really important is my message and I hope that is what translates to you as a reader with my backyard shots taken with a timer and a tripod.
2-I have added some new features to my website including a new mission of being a “style based” site.
- The first is the Find Your Style Type tab. I have six popular style types with brief descriptions so you can browse and see which one (or two) fit your personal style the best. This is still a work in progress and I have plans to get a little more in depth with these listing out specific garment types, colors, places to shop to find the style, and links to a Pinterest board with inspiration for that style type. I am giving myself permission to put things out there even though they are not perfect because if I wait, who knows when it will ever happen.
- I am also working on creating a new Style Workshop for November that I will be announcing soon. This is a part of Designing From My Closet that I hope can expand. Reaching women and showing them the power of dressing in confidence is a true passion of mine. The two sessions of the Designing From Your Closet Style Challenge were so amazing and I feel privileged to have gotten to know some of you through it. This new Style Workshop will give me more opportunities to do this. Be on the lookout for the announcement!
- Another big project I have launched is offering online styling services. There are currently four styling packages ranging from $10 to $50. I would appreciate it if you could share these services with anyone you know who may be interested in this.
3-Creating video content on YouTube has been a bigger focus as well. I am now posting two times a week. While I may feature some videos in a blog post, the majority of them are separate fresh content featuring Lookbooks, inspirational talks, style tips, and shopping hauls. Here are a few of my most recent videos:
4-I have been learning to lean more on Christ as life has been hectic lately. When what you know in life is turned around and shaken, it makes me feel a bit unsettled. My faith has become stronger as I rely on Christ to take over. Being in control is such an illusion anyhow, so walking in faith is what I need to be doing anyhow. I have been so blessed with so many opportunities and the Lord sometimes allows a chapter to close on something even though I am not ready to let it go only to lead me to something else. Right now, I am feeling lead to do these items I am sharing with you right now. It is in his hands to show me the way and also to bring ladies my direction who enjoy what I am putting out there. I ask for your prayers as I am embark on this journey.
5-My last thing I am working on is to not be obsessed with my statistics. As I mentioned in point 1 and 4, I do get the comparison bug and wonder if I am doing something wrong when I do not grow in views the way I would hope, then knowing that Designing From My Closet is in God’s hands and he has the timing all worked out.
And FYI, I just realized that my notifications for comments on my blog got turned off some how, so if you have commented in the past few weeks and I have not responded, I am sorry. I will be going through and reading all your lovely words this week as I so love to hear from all of you!
