Out of My Comfort Zone: Sporty Spice

Out of My Comfort Zone: Sporty Spice | Designing From My Closet

Along with the new fall season, I have been coming up with new ideas for Designing From My Closet.  One of them being new series.  Last week I wrote my first post for the new “Outfit Formula” series and today I am sharing my first of another series I want to begin called “Out of My Comfort Zone”.  This new series of blogs will highlight a certain new style that is a little different than my norm.  I believe that as women, our personal styles are constantly changing and I can for sure see that in myself.  Even as I look back at past posts, I can tell how my style has evolved.  I also hope that these posts will encourage you to always explore new styles.  It does not mean you have to keep buying new things, just perhaps one item and reinventing what you already have, like I am doing today.  There are now certain styles that once used to not appeal to me, that now are on my radar.  One style that has been intriguing me lately has been sporty.  Follow along as I show you my new found love with my look I have dubbed ‘Sporty Spice’.

After seeing an Instagram post of a gorgeous display at Bloomingdale’s with mannequins donning bomber jackets, embellished and bedazzled tees, joggers, and tennis shoes, I was so ready to take on this out-of-my-comfort-zone style.  Believe it or not, I only got one new item to complete this look and everything else was already in my wardrobe, I just never thought of pairing them together prior to this.  The sporty look is a mixture of street casual and luxe fabrics.  Sneakers are a must for this look and I have been wearing my white ones for a while, so I was pleased to incorporate them into this outfit.

A pair of heathered gray joggers I got last season from Target have never been worn outside of lounging around in the house, well that and to going to the hospital to have hip surgery earlier this year.  As a cue from the inspiration IG picture, I pushed up the hemline to capri length.

My one purchase for this look was a $5 gold sequined tank that I picked up at the Working Wardrobes Outlet in Huntington Beach (read my feature post on them here).  To me, this was totally worth taking a risk on and I love the look with my chambray bomber jacket layered over top it.  My Sylca Designs cubed necklace gives a great modern edge to the look and is always a showstopper every time I wear it.

My sporty spice outfit is complete with my brown Coach handbag…the perfect mix of street and luxe.

I love how this outfit turned out and I was amazed how chic it was along with being ultra comfy.

Does your style evolve? Do you find yourself trying new styles or do you always stick to the same?

  1. I love this look! You know I would totally wear it. Sequins? Sign me up!
I think it is incredibly important for people to step out of their comfort zone from time to time. With fashion, I don’t even think it has to be something you purchase, but just trying on new styles and getting a feel for how something looks and feels on your body is very important. It opens your mind a bit more and challenges your perception of yourself. For me, it has also helped in learning more about my body and also realizing that it really is more about how the clothes fit than how “flawed” my body might be. When a friend tells me she hates shopping because she hates her body or she never finds things that fit, you know I tell her to TRY EVERYTHING ON! Because 99% of the time, that friend is poo-pooing things before she ever sees it on herself. I digress.
When I try things out of my comfort zone, I am usually very happy with the results. 🙂

    1. Sorry it is taking me so long to get back in response to your comment! And I was thrilled when I saw this sequin top and thought how perfect it would be for some daytime sparkle looks. You are one to really try new things and I so appreciate that outlook. I have issues with some ladies that I shop with that do the same thing. They pass everything up!
