Thrifting and shopping second hand is something I have done for years to supplement my wardrobe. Not only do I find it enjoyable, I find that this is the perfect way to keep things fresh as well as being able to wear pieces that not everyone else has. Getting items second hand does not mean you have to sacrifice style or current trends either. Today I am taking you inside my favorite thrift shop: Working Wardrobes Outlet in Huntington Beach, to show you two looks I pulled together showing some great fall 2016 fashion trends.
I have been familiar with Working Wardrobes as a Southern California organization that has helped so many men, women, veterans, and young adults overcome difficult challenges (read more about them here) and when I saw a thrift shop bearing their name near me, I was intrigued. As I first stepped inside several months ago, I realized this outlet was like no other thrifting experience I have ever encountered. The store looks like a boutique with its organized racks by size and its friendly staff and volunteers. I always make a b-line to the Plus Size racks, yes I said racks plural, to find out what new pieces have come in. They of course have a great selection of all sizes for women as well as mens clothing.
They also have roomy clean dressing rooms to try on my finds, which I love! Inspirational displays are always changing and why have I not gotten that bag that is hanging in the picture below?!! That’s gorgeous. The prices are absolutely amazing which you would not think by looking at this boutique style shop. It seems like every day of the week they are having a special promo which makes the deals even better.
When I heard they were going to be doing a photo shoot for fall, I asked if I could tag along and join in the fun! I had an amazing time with these ladies and it was wonderful to have a photographer instead of my usual tripod.
OUTFIT 1: MENSWEAR INSPIRED
Menswear inspired does not mean having to dawn a suit. Small details pulled from menswear can translate so well into a womans wardrobe. Buckles, vests, and wingtip shoes are all inspired by this great fall 2016 trend. And I am wearing head to toe items from the Working Wardrobes Outlet!
Details like studs give a tough edge and is a great way to add texture to any outfit. And to keep any menswear inspired look a little more feminine, try adding colorful items such as this royal blue and turquoise necklace. It gives just a little sparkle to this look.
The buckle detail on this metallic knit vest gives waist definition without being constrained. I love how the textured piece goes with the light pink tee layered underneath it. And if you did not know already, pink is a hot color for fall! To complete the look, sueded wingtip heels add flair to these dark wash skinny jeans.
OUTFIT 2: THE LITTLE RED DRESS
Red is another big color for this upcoming fall season and what better way to do it than with a little red dress. It came with a skinny sash in the same fabric, but I swapped it out for a brown snake print belt and pulled the buckle to the back.
To make this dress more day appropriate, I kept with the brown accents and accessorized with a multi strand wood bead necklace and brown wedges. This can easily be converted into a fancy holiday dress for later on by adding some glitzy jewelry and pointy toe pumps.
I had such a fabulous time working with all the staff at Working Wardrobes to pull these looks together and be part of their photo shoot. It goes to show you can still get the latest trends and fashions while not shopping retail. The Working Wardrobes Outlet in Huntington Beach is a treasure trove for those seeking great style on a budget. Check out all of their other store locations throughout Southern California here.
Being a wardrobe stylist, I encourage ladies to explore shopping second hand to find one-of-a-kind looks. I want every woman to feel special about themselves and feel confident in what they are wearing. Working with ladies to pull together a fabulous wardrobe is an honor.
