Time. It always seems to slip away from us. Today I wanted to touch on the topic of time in relation to our wardrobe. We invest so much time into so many areas of our life: careers, relationships, responsibilities, kids…and sometimes you get placed on the back burner. Just like anything that does not get cultivated, it shows and it withers away. I have a fun look I put together, not by chance, and wanted to share this floral tank and colored denim outfit in conjunction with this topic of taking time to invest in yourself.
A lot of people may think that fashion is a frivolous thing. While it focuses on the outward appearance, fashion takes on another life when you make choices that improve your self confidence. That inner voice that makes you feel strong and that you can take on the world. To me, that is not frivolous at all!
Planning outfits and having a wardrobe that is easy to pull from takes time investment. The time to invest should be those moments when you are at ease and do not have a strict time schedule to keep. My mind goes back to planning my wedding over 21 years ago. I did not wait until the last minute to select my dress, I shopped months in advance to ensure my special day would be as stress free as possible as well as knowing that I would look and feel my best.
Why should those feelings we associate with getting ready for a special event only be limited to those times? Why not apply those same principles to every day dressing?
This floral peplum tank is a silhouette I have worn many times before. I am also drawn to colorful prints that can be mixed and matched with several other items in my closet. Having pieces like this in my “wardrobe arsenal” prepares me for when I am ready to tackle the days tasks. I invested time to seek out a piece like this in anticipation of wearing it to feel great about myself. I also took time to plan out several outfits to go with this top so when sleepy mornings come and my creative juices are not quite flowing yet, I am all set to go.
Today I chose to wear this floral tank with a pair of Torrid coral jeggings that pick up the coral colors in the print. And because I always like to have a light layer handy when I wear sleeveless pieces, I am showing it with this oatmeal colored cropped cocoon cardigan (say that three times fast!). A coral stone necklace fills the neck space nicely as well as picking up that same orangy-red tone. For some reason, I can never have enough fringe, so I am layering it in on my handbag and sandals.
Investing time in your wardrobe and having outfits prepared is a wonderful gift to give to yourself. It is a sure fire way to build self confidence and say to the world that you deserve to be noticed.
