Lately I have been feeling like fashion has been a gateway to many other aspects of my life. Because fashion is meant to be fun, I have been more and more open to trying new silhouettes and even trends that feel risky to me. Culottes happen to be one of those trendy items that I never thought I would go for, and yet here I am sporting a pair in today’s post.
- White Embroidered Tank: Old Navy via Poshmark
- Chambray Culottes: Target
- Ava & Viv Safari Jacket: Target
- Python Print Pumps: Chinese Laundry via Goodwill
- Blue Woven Clutch: AllyOops Boutique
- Wood Ring: Charming Charlie
- Beaded Ladder Necklace: Poshmark
It’s funny to me to say that taking a chance on pieces like a pair of chambray culottes led me to take on some really big changes in my personal and professional life, but it’s true. Fashion and experimentation with my style has first built my confidence by giving myself permission to express who I am in a small way. Those small steps have a way of making me view life changing decisions in an entirely new light. It has made them seem that much more possible, that much more “I can do this”, that much more giving myself permission to just try, even if I fail.
With all that being said, if you are wanting to step out of your comfort zone when it comes to fashion, I highly encourage you to do so. What do you have to lose by trying those shorts, by trying that hot new color you say you can’t wear even though you love it? Those decisions lead to so much more and you never know where it can take you!
I found these culottes in the clearance section at Target and paused on them. I took a chance and tried them on and I am so glad I did. An embroidered white top, slouchy lightweight tan jacket, beaded necklace, and metallic python print pumps I recently thrifted all converge to create a custom, one of a kind look just for me. It represents taking chances and creating a better life. As I have mentioned before, fashion is so much more than clothes you just throw on your body. Fashion is a gateway to meaningful expression leading to confidence.
