When I initially think of tie dye, I think of boxy t-shirts in a swirl of rainbow colors. Now, I adore wearing practically every color, and have been known to wear multiple tones in one outfit, however I typically go for a more chic way of dressing. Anthropologie has always been able to capture the essence of chic tie dye and it was no surprise that I fell in love with one of their latest versions of a tie dye dress in the Sky Country Maxi. In fact, the dress was on my wish list as I believe the cut would be able to fit my plus size frame. Then on a recent trip to Target, I was stopped in my tracks when I saw a peek of blue tie dye coming out from the racks in the Ava & Viv section. I found my own plus size version of this Anthro dream dress so here is my copy cat.
The Inspiration Dress
Although my versions silhouette is different that the inspiration, the entire vibe is exactly the same and I actually prefer the wider strap and the shorter length. It allows me to wear my regular bra (which is always a good thing) and the cut allows me to dress it up or down depending upon where I am going. It falls right at the bottom of my knee and for reference, I am 5′-5″. I am going to tell you right now, this dress is one of my most favorite purchases in a very long time and I think you can tell by the look on my face.
My “Copy Cat” Dress
The way that the tie dye pattern in placed gives a wonderful illusion to the body. Angled lines draw in to the center of the body towards the waist and a band underneath the bust provides definition without actually being tight. In fact, the cut of the dress is a shift, which means it is a straight cut that hangs down from the bust. At first I thought I would need to size up to accommodate for my hips, but found the sizing to be generous. I am a 16 and am wearing a 0X.
The tie dye pattern is a mirror image on the back with a long exposed zipper. After a few try ons, I finally found that the zipper was actually unessessary and I just kept it zipped up to slip it over my head. In fact, all the dresses I tried on in different sizes (I tried both the 1X and 2X too) and the zipper kept getting stuck making it challenging to zip up by myself. And another reason I loved this is the rayon fabric. It is very lightweight and flowy, which is lovely for the summer months. I find it to be body skimming and not body hugging, which is exactly what I love.
For its first time out, I wore it with a wood statement necklace and block heel gladiator sandals for an easy daytime look. I honestly felt like I was wearing an Anthropologie dress all while knowing it was from Target. In other words, I felt like a million bucks!

More Tie Dye Plus Size Options
I am going to be taking a bit of a refresh for summer to help ensure I do not get burnt out, so my regular three days a week posts are going to be more irregular for the next few months. As much as I love blogging, it is still a creative process that requires energy. This much needed break will help me to recharge and come back with some great new content. I will not be gone, just taking a step back. If you have any specific requests as far as styling or fashion goes, I would love to hear from you.
Have a wonderful summer!
