Black, White, & Cobalt

Trying new color combinations have always been high on my priority list.  One that has been popular for quite some time, but I had never delved into before was the black, white, and cobalt palette.  My aversion to wearing black has held me back too much and I am venturing out by styling it a way I love.  I am going to show you two outfits today with color blocking and print mixing.  These are two styles I feel super comfortable with so if you ever have an issue with wearing a specific color, but want to dabble into wearing it, try it in a way you are used to as far as style, cuts, and silhouettes.  This will help ease you into seeing yourself in a new way.

COLOR BLOCKING

This first look was all based upon this Lane Bryant skirt that I discovered at Goodwill a few weeks ago.  I had tried it on last year and even posted a picture of me wearing it on the blog from the fitting room during a review post.  At the time I was unable to purchase it, but when I saw it at the thrift store, I knew it was destiny.  I love the long maxi style with the pleats and I wanted to wear it similar to how I had tried it on in the store: with a white tank and white jacket.  All in all, I love the entire look and think it is so great for an edgy and creative office outfit.  Hey, I will wear it on the weekend too!

I styled it with a wood ring necklace, stacks of bangles, a zebra print clutch, and zippered booties to drive home the edgy elegance.  And the day I took these pictures I was getting prepared to get my hair done after a long over due hiatus from going to the salon, so you will see in my next outfit the results of my cut that I am loving.

PRINT MIXING

Again, I was very lucky with the purchase of this Marimekko for Target top because when I first looked at the collection in store, I realized they did not offer plus sizes, but they did online.  A few weeks ago I strolled by the small display that was left and saw this top in a 1X.  More than likely it was a return from someone who had purchased it online and I could not be happier that I found it.  This entire look is a mix of designer collaborations from Target with the skirt being from the Who What Wear line and the shoes being from the Adam Lippes collection.  I added a few gold accessories and my look was complete.

  1. Great combination! I tend to stay away from white, but you are inspiring me to try wearing it! I love your blog, the posts are so well thought out and always give me lots of ideas.

    1. I would say to at least give it a try if you are interested. Perhaps try it in small ways that you feel comfortable with and branch out from there. People think I am a little nutty when I say I do not wear black, but I am really pushing myself. I could not be happier with the results too because I am doing it on my own terms: with prints and other fabulous details that I love. Thank you for such a lovely comment because I enjoy inspiring ladies. I am really paying it forward to all the ladies in my life that have blessed me with their wisdom and kindness. Let me know how it goes with wearing white!

    1. Yes for print mixing! At first I was thinking that this printed top and the maxi skirt would go, but for some reason they just did not play well together. 😦 But I am super pleased with this combo. I feel even more happy with this lovely compliment from the print master herself!
