Dancing Queen

You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dancing Queen

Dancing Queen by ABBA has to be one of my all time favorite songs.  And for some reason, today’s outfit had me singing it all through this time of taking pictures and the rest of the day.  Perhaps it is the wild seventies style print or perhaps it is the boxy, short silhouette reminiscent of those days.  Either way, I was happy as a clam singing a tune and having a pep in my step.

This Lane Bryant dress was a total impulse purchase that I got off of Poshmark.  It has a purple background with a large global-esque floral print all over in yellows and oranges.  The slip style dress was a little shorter than I had originally hoped for, but I wanted to give it a shot.

With a denim jacket, it takes on a more modern edge while my colored wood necklace picks up on the global feel of the print.  I love how the colors go together so well.  I kept the handbag and shoes simple in blue and camel.  And lets just go there and say that I had to wear shorts underneath this dress to feel comfortable.  To go even further, this is one body part that I am really not all the confident with.  My legs are one thing I am still working on in my body positive journey.  This is not a new feeling either as ever since I can remember, I have been self conscience of my legs, especially my thighs, even as a child.  Even though I was of average weight and height growing up, this was one body part that seemed so different from the stick thin thighs of my fellow class mates.

I am so glad that I went ahead and rocked this dress as I adore the way it looks, especially styled this way.  For me, being confident always begins with being scared.  You have to face the fears head on to get over them.  And while you probably will not be seeing me sporting mini skirts all the time, it is refreshing to not be intimidated by them.

Like I said, I was literally singing and dancing to Dancing Queen while taking pictures!

  1. I know that feeling about a dress being a little too short—but somehow this one really doesn’t look too short. It could be the ankle boots—since they come up higher on the ankle and take up some of the real estate of the leg?
But I love the remix variations—can’t wait to see them on you!
