Rich color has always been a favorite of mine. A few weeks ago, while on vacation, I stopped in Lane Bryant to see what they had in store. As soon as I walked in, color, spicy color, sun-drenched color jumped out at me. Golden yellows, bright oranges, and deep reds graced entire displays in the store. This plus size retailer has been impressing me more and more with each passing season. And with their newest #ThisBody campaign, I am claiming today’s look as #ThisBodyWasMadeFor Wearing Color!
Today I am going to be sharing what I got along with some of my other personal favorites from Lane Bryant. And I know I am not the only one loving this style, since without prior knowledge, Liz of With Wonder and Whimsy purchased a piece in the same Red Palms print as me. So come along with me and see what is in store for spring and summer in rich color.
Upon entering Lane Bryant, my eyes were immediately drawn to a print. The Red Palms print to be exact. It was gracing the pair of wide leg linen blend pants that got me even more excited to try on. I feel like I have almost converted all of my pants to the skinny cut and missed my wide leg silhouette that I had many years ago. These pants are a pull on style with a drawstring waist. I tried on both the 18/20 and 14/16 and ultimately decided upon the 18/20 to allow for some shrinkage after washing.
When I put this outfit on, I felt like I was going back to my roots as a native Southern California girl and headed to the beach to take pictures. This beach is actually one I used to come to often as a young girl to play in the surf and sand. To show off the beautiful red-orange color of the large scale pattern of the pants, I paired it with a tank I got at Old Navy last summer. Lane Bryant has a very similar tank to this that looks great with these pants, along with several other styles of tops in the same bright orange.
This look is a take on casual resort chic and I can see myself wearing it on vacation and to several occasions at home including family picnics and brunch with friends. I do want to note that these pants are very long. I am 5′-5″ and am wearing about a 3 1/2″ heel here. As you can see, my sandals are barely able to be seen. I have since laundered them and they did shrink slightly as predicted, but are still on the longer side to where I would need to wear heels or decide to hem them. I enjoy the length and overall flowey nature of the pant as they fit my personal style perfectly. It provides a relaxed, yet pulled together look that is wonderful for spring and summer.
Gold and coral accessories make this outfit stand out even more. I call it “beach goddess”. And an open weave ivory cardigan adds more bohemian vibes while adding a great layer to this drapey look. A wide brim hat brings drama while giving me much needed sun protection for my fair skin. In the future, I plan on also wearing these pants with a light cream knit top as well as with a denim jacket instead of the cardigan.

The Red Palms Print also comes in a Full Skirt with Colorblock Hem that Liz is wearing on her blog. Like me, she chose to pair her print with a red-orange top, but one with sleeves and lace insets. This look is like the dressy sister to my outfit, which I adore. Full skirts are such a popular trend this spring and in my opinion, a classic and feminine shape. This tropical look would be perfect for date night as well as attending a fun wedding shower. As for me, I would also sport this look at work being in a creative field.
Liz is such an inspiration to me both fashion wise and personally. I am truly blessed to have gotten to know her behind the scenes and consider her a wonderful friend. We obviously have some overlapping style sense because we chose the same print and color palette without us knowing. With Wonder and Whimsy is a fanciful blog chalk full of inspiration when it comes to fashion and travel. And because I have a limited budget and could not possibly get everything at Lane Bryant that I love, here are some of the styles that I am loving beyond my fabulous wide leg pants. What I am enjoying the most from the new arrivals is the variety of shapes. Goldenrod and coral get ramped up with dolman sleeve and drapey tops, slim ankle pants, textured fabrics like jacquard and lace, and details of ties and pleats. This entire selection is one way to get a look for spring and take it right into summer.
