The Draped Long Line Navy Trench

Curating pieces with a unique design twist is something I began doing a little more than a year ago.  When I saw this navy jacket on the Yours Clothing website that reminded me of a deconstructed trench coat, I was intrigued.  Yours gifted me this this jacket and I was so beyond ecstatic!  Navy has always been my go to neutral so I knew this was going to be a piece I would pull quite often when it turns a little cold.  This jacket comes in khaki, burgundy, and grey as well.  In fact, my friend and fellow blogger Nina of Curvy Mod featured an outfit in the khaki version for a fall look.

This jacket is fully lined and also has front pockets with snap button closures.  The front closure is so interesting as there are two buttons on the top, then a zipper to fully close it.  As you can see from the image above from the Yours website, the drape is so dramatic.  They labeled it as a parka jacket, and it seems like so much more than your average parka.  Everything is adjustable like the waist drawstring as well as the bottom hem.  I also like that it has details such as shoulder epaulets and a hood.

To show you how this long line draped trench looks on my 5′-5″ frame in a size US 18 I styled it two ways.  The first is a flirty casual look with a dress and sneakers and the second is a more sleek, street style outfit with printed pants and booties.  One of the reasons I am so excited to show these outfits to you is that they are using the same two pieces I used to layer over from my last post where I featured an Aztec Print Coatigan Styled Two Ways.  I am also including one of my favorite style tips when it comes to wearing prints.  So without further ado, here are the looks.

I decided to switch things up a bit and use this dress I featured with the Aztec coatigan, but this time as the casual look.  Amy of Full Figured & Fashionable turned me on to wearing sneakers with dresses and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so.  The pink marled swing dress that Yours gifted me gets another use here under the long jacket that is almost the same length as the dress.  To bring definition to my waist, I placed a cognac belt under the bust.  Even worn open, this jacket drapes so nicely and I love the casual vibe it gives here.  With the addition of a printed leopard and stripe tassel scarf that incorporate both blue and pink, it brings this look together.  To me, this outfit screams, I’m ready for a fun weekend!

To take this jacket to a more sophisticated level, I layered it over a white top with a zipper detail and blue Aztec print pants that Yours gifted me.  The top is the same one I used with the Aztec coatigan in my previous post I mentioned and am happy to show you how versatile it is.  I half tucked it in the trousers to show the tie detail on the front of them.  The cognac satchel from the dress outfit stayed, but instead of a scarf, I selected a wood bead necklace with a navy tassel that ties in to the color of the jacket.  Tan booties that are similar to my skin tone blend in at my feet to give ease below the busy pattern of the pants.

Unzipped and zipped, this jacket looks fantastic.  I love how even though it is draped when it is closed, it accentuates my waist because of the drawstring.  This outfit is perfect for my creative field of interior design and I can see myself meeting with clients, working in the office, and going to the showrooms in this.  It is dressed up without being fussy and gives a cool, funky vibe.
