Layering for the Holidays with the Family

Having something cute to wear for more casual holiday family get-togethers can get a little lost in the shuffle.  There are so many glitzy and dressy options (which I love by the way) on the market right now, but that does not mean you have to always sport a t-shirt and jeans just because the occasion you are going to is more laid back.  To find an outfit for an upcoming holiday family party of mine, I turned to PinkBlush because they have such cute dresses for women.  I first introduced this women’s online boutique a few weeks ago and have been so in love with the pieces I already have from them.

If you are a long time reader of mine, you know that I am a sucker for prints and color.  Since I have so many accessories that are bold, I was looking for a dress that could act as a backdrop for my colorful jackets, scarves, and necklaces.  The Olive Green Plus Dress stood out to me immediately because I knew the color could go with practically anything I have.

I have to admit, looking at it on it’s own is not all that exciting, but I am looking at this dress as an opportunity to layer.  This is something that has been missing from my rainbow filled closet so I can utilize all those accessories I love so much.

For my casual holiday look with my family I layered the simple scoop neck dress with a colorful abstract square scarf and a cognac faux leather jacket.  Those two pieces totally transform this stretchy knit to a fun and interesting outfit.  Since the piece has 3/4 sleeves, I folded up the jacket to reveal some of the olive for added interest.PinkBlush Olive Green Plus Dress | Designing From My Closet | Plus & Inbetweenie Fashion BlogDecember weather has been mild across the US, and in California, I am still able to go bare legged and be comfortable during the day.  If I had my druthers, I would be wearing some heeled booties, but my hip injury still requires me to be in flats, so my brown ones do the trick here.  To finish off the look, I placed on a boho floppy hat and a bright violet suede clutch.PinkBlush Olive Green Plus Dress | Designing From My Closet | Plus & Inbetweenie Fashion BlogThe fit of this ShopPinkBlush dress in a 3X was very nice throughout the arms and chest area for me.  I also enjoy the longer, just below the knee length on my 5′-5″ frame.  Due to the slight clingy nature of the lightweight knit, I chose to wear shape wear underneath for smoothness, although I do not find the dress to be necessarily tight.
