When I begin a design for a room, I typically start by finding the perfect pattern to base everything on. It could be a pillow fabric or a wall covering, but the principles are the same. From there I can select coordinating fabrics and paint colors. The same could be said for this outfit. These floral pants from Old Navy spoke to my vintage soul and I knew they were full of possibilities. I already featured them in both my Old Navy Fall Picks post and Pattern Mixing: A How-To Guide post.
The overall gray background with ivory and mustard blooms in a not-too-big yet not-to-small scale were the perfect jumping off point for this outfit. I took a cue from my friend Liz of With Wonder and Whimsy and got a few pastel pieces to incorporate into my fall wardrobe and I love the result here. This peplum cardigan in blush over a white tank is just stunning with these stand out pants. The texture brings in another interesting element without competing with the statement print.
To complete the outfit I chose to stick with a nice rich cognac color in both my handbag and shoes. These heels have been some of my best shoes over the summer and still plan on wearing them well into the fall months. They are still available in my curated collection at AllyOops Boutique. For those of you who are still having warmer temperatures, this is a perfect transitional outfit for fall. And for those who never get really cold in autumn (like me on the West Coast) it can still be worn until winter time.
