Denim and Stripes

Spin the Pin September 2015

For Septembers #SPINthePIN, Jo of iCurvy selected this image from They All Hate Us showing a whole lot of denim.  Since both of these looks are not particularly my style, I stepped back a bit and remembered the concept on this style challenge: to be inspired.  The key elements I chose to focus on was distressed denim, stripes, animal print, and a girly vibe combined with a tough edge.

Denim and Stripes

The distressed denim is coming in through my skirt.  I have already worn the Indigo Denim Mini Skirt from Yours Clothing four times since I got it a few weeks ago.  It goes with everything.  I am now on the hunt for some brown suede over the knee boots with a wedge that I think will look great with it for the fall.  I already have some colored tights that I plan on pairing with it too, but until the cooler weather comes, it is bare legs for me.

Denim and Stripes

Stripes is not something I have a lot of, not because I do not like the way they look on me, but because I find that they are not an easy transition into my personal vintage boho style.  This Stripe Short Sleeve Tee from Twelve North is a recent addition to my wardrobe.  The thin black stripes vs the thick ones I usually see appealed to me.  I stumbled upon a style tip for tees by accident and wanted to make note of it here.  There were several options I had to finish off this look with the tee: tuck it in, half tuck it, knot it, or what I call a draped hidden knot like I did here.  I knotted the tee in the front loosely to one side, then just tucked the knot itself under.  It creates a nice draped effect and soft edge between the top and bottom.

Denim and Stripes

One of the inspiration outfits has a pair of leopard pumps and I translated that into a zebra print clutch.  The animal print lends nicely to the neutral color palette of the complete look.  I have had this one for a while and just love it.Denim and Stripes

My girly vibe comes in through the gauzy frayed edge scarf instead of lace.  The white and black floral print looks so good with this tee.  To inject a little more personality and flair, I added a huge statement ring I got at a boutique as a memory of this last time my mom and I went to have tea.  This is definitely a more simple look than I usually do, but it is a nice departure.  I always like to try something new.  I am linking up with iCurvy for Spin the Pin.  If you want to participate yourself or just see everyone elses looks, check out Jo’s post.Denim and Stripes
