I love wearing a great dress, whether it be in a casual or dressy setting. When I first saw the Distinction Jacket Dress at Catherines I was hesitant to give it a try. I loved the overall pattern that is reminiscent of an animal print and also the brick red print at the bottom that reminded me of mosaic work. My hesitation came from the fact that this dress has an overall black color scheme that I typically do not go for, but I am so glad I gave it a shot and tried it on. It fit so well and it was so comfortable for being upscale and chic.
To put my own personal twist on this dress, I wore it without the black shrug that comes with it, then added accessories. A brown obi belt and wedges from my closet were the first to be added. And yes, you can wear black and brown together! For some reason that has been a no-no in so many womens minds. I love how it adds warmth to the entire look.
A snake skin clutch gives a little more brightness to the dress and continues with the earthy, global vibe I am creating. Lastly, the Dual Decadence Necklace finishes off the look perfectly. With its golden chain, stones, and gems, this multi layered piece ties into the belt and shoes. This entire outfit is perfect for wearing right now since it is still a little warm.
For a little later when cooler weather rolls around, I plan on switching up the look of this dress. By throwing on a dark olive jacket with a military flair from my closet, I am giving this dress a more casual feel. It has a tie at the waist that I have cinched in for some shape. The accessories also got switched out with the first being the belt. A brown stretch belt gets put over the black band on the dress and I like how it peeks through the thinner width.
A brown satchel and nude booties play nicely together while adding a more fall flavor. This also shows how well brown and tan looks with black. It softens it by providing a break from the dark tone. I still believe black accessories would look great with this dress, I just wanted to show what a difference it makes to not go with the obvious.
By adding a large stone slab necklace that has black, brown, cream, brick, and turquoise, it solidifies my color scheme. The colors found in nature are exactly what this entire look consists of. I am all about how styling can make one piece take on your personal taste. This dress is so versatile and I can see it being worn in so many ways. Now I can wear this dress now and later with both of these outfits planned!
