Fall Fashion Trend: Refined Fringe

Ah fall, my favorite season for fashion.  And although cooler autumn temps do not usually roll around to Southern California until mid to late October, I am looking ahead to some of the latest trends that coincide with my personal style.  Fringe is a detail in the spotlight currently and I am getting my fill of it in this look.Catherines Fringe Arts Poncho and True Stretch Jean

When I was asked by Catherines to be their August 2015 Style Ambassador, I anxiously awaited to preview their new Art of the Mix Collection that consisted of transitional styles for that time between summer and fall.  One piece that I instantly knew I would be trying was the Fringe Arts Poncho.  My little boho heart skipped a beat when I went shopping at my local Catherines and saw how even more beautiful it was in person.Catherines Fringe Arts Poncho and True Stretch Jean

The open crochet work in combination with the fringe sums up my personal style perfectly.  Fringe can quickly take over a look so I like how this top has the essence of ease with a refined style.  It is soft, flowy, and luxe feeling.  What I really liked a lot about this top is its ability to be dressed up or down.  My favorite way of dressing is a dressy casual look so that is how I styled it by adding a statement necklace, colorful clutch, and sandals with a chunky heel.  For its first wear I layered it over an ivory cami, and plan on placing a colored tank underneath it next time for another look.Catherines Fringe Arts Poncho and True Stretch Jean

To show off the high ankle style of the shoes, I cuffed my denim.  And speaking of denim, these True Stretch Jeans are probably one of the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn.  I liked them so much, I got them in another wash which I will be showing later this month.  The features that I enjoy are the slim leg that still accommodate my larger thighs without being skin tight, the gentle stretch, the medium weight that has body without being heavy, and the lack of front pockets that eliminates bulk around my tummy.  Although these have a high rise for me, it is a typical issue I have with most pants due to me being short waisted.  I did however find that they did not dip down in the back like most pants do on me.Catherines Fringe Arts Poncho and True Stretch Jean

One thing I mentioned to the Catherines store manager was that I was a jewelry girl.  Accessories can really make a huge difference in an outfit and can add personality.  For me, that flair came through the Cleopatra Necklace that has rows of gradient brown beads that resemble stone and dangling gold medallions.  How regal!  This statement piece gives just enough attention to bring the eye up to my face, but it does not compete with the overall pattern on the poncho.

Fringe gives me movement and personality that I love.  It gives me that vintage boho style that is me.  This piece gives me that beautiful trend with an elegant and refined vibe.  All together, the oversized top and the slim bottom gives me a lovely silhouette that I am crazy over.Catherines Fringe Arts Poncho and True Stretch Jean

I can hardly wait to show you the other looks that I got on my shopping trip to Catherines.  Each Friday this month I will be featuring a new look from the Art of the Mix Collection that totally fits my style.

  1. You look fabulous. I am so tempted by these jeans, particularly the ombré style. However, I am worried about the leg. Most Catherines’ jeans I have tried are huge in the thigh for me. Would you say these are a truly slim fit?

    1. Thank you so much Carolyn. I got these in the ombré/dip dyed wash as well that I will be showing in a couple of weeks here. I myself have a large thigh as well as a large waist which is usually a problem when I try on jeans. Since my waist measurement is not much different from my hip measurement I tried on both the 0X and the 1X. Both fit great, but I decided upon the 1X to give me a little more room in the waist. With all of that being said, for me, these are a slim fit vs the girlfriend jeans from Catherines I showed last Friday that have a much more generous cut. They are not what I would consider a “skinny” jean either as they do not taper as close to the ankle as a true skinny jean. Also, Hailey of Discourse of a Divine Diva featured the dip dyed wash in a size 2X. She has a little different body type but it is good reference on how they fit as well: http://www.divinemrsdiva.com/2015/08/art-of-mix-peasant-top-and-dip-dyed-jean.html?m=1
