Being a planner by nature, putting together outfits is something I love to do. I typically do not pull a look for me to wear the morning of, but rather I plan them in advance whenever the creative mood strikes. Having styled looks ready to put on when I am getting ready for the day is a sure fire way to set me in the right direction. Even though I am a morning person, the beginnings of my day do not involve leisurely fingering over items in my closet. I reserve the early hours of the day to my exercise routine, eating breakfast, taking care of my puppy, and doing some quick chores around the house.
While some of my looks are more complex, I do unconsciously follow a formula for my go-to outfits that consist of four elements…a basic, a basic with a twist, a wow piece, and accessories.
Today’s outfit I would describe as an easy casual look with a relaxed bohemian flair. Since the discovery of my personal style earlier this year, I have been able to hone in on items that fit my “vintage boho” theme. When I was shopping at Catherines earlier this week, it was easy for my eye to gravitate towards items that fulfilled my style without being distracted by other items I can appreciate, and are better suited for others. While my style is clearly shown here, my formula transcends style and can be applied to yours easily.
Here is how I pulled my look together:
My Basic: The Suprema Scoopneck Tank
This white top is a simple layering piece that is a staple in my personal wardrobe. I have several white tops in varying cuts, silhouettes, and fabrics. I really am constantly on the lookout for them because after a while of being in rotation, they start to show their wear. The reason I enjoy this tank so much is the fact that you cannot see through it at all. Some white tops are semi-sheer and I have to layer them to not have my undergarments show. This particular top has a simple scoop neckline and is a nice backdrop for putting more detailed items on. I call it my “extra” from the acting world. It is super long on my short waisted torso so I did a half tuck allowing the back to drape loose.
My Basic with a Twist: The Girlfriend Jean
Having basics like denim can get predictable for me, so when I tried on the distressed girlfriend jean, I knew I had found my twist element. It has a nice medium wash and more relaxed fit than skinnies. The distressing is not over done, and I enjoy the texture it provides. Now this is “supporting actress” worthy. A cuffed hem is something I am familiar with, but since these have a bit of a wider leg, the give a different silhouette than I am used to. And I like it!
My Wow Piece: The Delightful Cocoon Cardigan
How can you not be wowed by a flowy blue patterned piece like this?!! This cardigan is like a big gorgeous gauzy scarf that has been fashioned into a kimono. It feels so luxurious that I wanted to put it on right away. The overall pattern is a paisley in blue and white. By slipping on this cardigan, it takes this basic look to being a showstopper. Its boho feel makes me feel right at home and this is the “star of the show”.
This long gold necklace with tan dangling gem is just the kind of jewelry I love. It has a touch of a global feel with the hammered metal. It fills in the empty space on the white tank nicely between the cardigan and does not compete for attention. Now I may have expressed to you my major dilemma I have with bracelets before, but I am going to again. I have very large wrists and have gotten into some “fights” with bangles before when I try to remove them. And stretch ones can be just as an issue as they dig into my arm and have spaces where they are not supposed to. Well, not with this gold beauty. It slipped on and was ready to live right there on my wrist. I love how it looks like gold coins lined up. These pieces totally complete this look without being over done.
And here it is, my go-to casual outfit that was all pre-planned for me this morning without having to fuss. Simply vintage boho, simply me. This is my first post being the August Style Ambassador for Catherines and I could not be more pleased with the items I found there. Every Friday this month I will be sharing another new look I found there and I am so excited to show them to you!
