Have you ever had too many similarities happen that it is beyond coincidence? Well that was the case with me and Catherine of Dreamy Realist Fashion. We both recently cut our long locks for some shorter dos and then unknowingly to each other purchased striped summer dresses from Old Navy. When Catherine wrote a post about collaborating with other bloggers, I knew it was the perfect time to join forces and show our new summer looks on a budget. I am showing a west coast look and she an east coast look.
This shift style silhouette is brand new to me. I typically go for more form fitting dresses and for some reason, this one just spoke to me. The ivory and tan dress has varying woven stripes and big pockets on the front. With the weather being super hot and humid here in Southern California, this breezy dress is exactly what I needed to still feel like I am put together without melting. I got this one at Old Navy for under $40.
The sandals are a brown braided style with gold accents. I like how they even have gold around the edges of the foot. The texture they give are a nice touch to this simple summer look. I picked these up at Payless a little bit ago for around $15.
I went pretty bold with the accessories and took advantage of the subdued backdrop of the dress. This necklace has super eye catching appeal and takes this classic striped dress into a global paradise. The ethnic vibe is so up my ally and makes it a personal statement. I recently got this at the Anthropologie tag sale for under $25. Some may say that this is not a budget piece, and I may agree with you to a point. For years I held back from purchasing costume necklaces that were over $15. I finally noticed I was accumulating more and more of these pieces only to never be satisfied with the look or quality. This is a piece I will be keeping for a long time, so for me, that is money well spent.
A fun Forever 21 gold cube bracelet that I got secondhand for under $7 and a colorful raffia clutch with pom poms from Charming Charlie that I also got for under $7 complete my summer outfit on a budget.
Catherines look also begins with a striped dress from Old Navy, only this time in black and white (similar one here). Hers, like mine, was also under $40. I love how she paired the neutral dress with a fun, colorful handbag. This red one she got at Target is so perfect and she got it for under $40 as well. She completed the look with some Target black wedge sandals (under $35) and a Lou Lou Boutique statement necklace.
