Star Wars Inspired

Queen Amidala

So what am I doing with a picture of Queen Amidala at the beginning of my post?  Well, I am a bit of a Star Wars fan.  The whole story line and music of these films captivated me right from the very beginning when I was young.  When Hailey of Discourse of a Divine Diva posted on Instagram that she had a dedicated Star Wars Christmas tree this last winter, I knew we were kindred spirits.

So without further ado, today’s post is a collaboration with Hailey and I creating looks from costumes from the sci-fi series.  Since we are smack dab in the middle of a heat wave, the overly adorned Padme in her formal gown from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace got a bit of a pair down to make a summer look suitable for me.

Her long red robe with black trim and details is translated through my sleeveless maxi dress that I happened to purchase from Sandae of Curvy Girl on the Run through Poshmark.Queen Amidala Inspired look in a LOFT dressThe layers of neck and shoulder pieces gets toned down with a simple tan vest with some sheen and a stretch belt.  FYI-this cinch belt from Target looks super similar to the Corsair Belt from Anthropologie belt and runs really big!  I am in a size Medium and it is still too large on the tightest notch.

And her long neck piece with gold embroidery is inspired by this long fringed necklace with gems.  I broke out my Hollywood Roll to complete the look.Queen Amidala Inspired look in a LOFT dress

I rarely get to use this tiny shell embellished clutch and I thought it just looked so regal and royal to go along with this Queen themed look.Queen Amidala Inspired look in a LOFT dress

Although this look is inspired by a movie character, it also has several styling tricks involved that are worth noting.  First is the fact that I am using both black and brown in this look.  For so many that is a difficult thing to get over, but I assure you, if you try it, you will like it!  One of the biggest styling tips is the layering.  This dress by itself is a beautiful pattern that has no defined waist and only came with a rope belt (which means it just hangs there).  It also has a racer back (which means you see your bra straps if you wear a regular bra).  Now I realize that they have special bras and even little hooks that you can make a regular bra into a racer back, but for me, I have not invested in items like this.  By adding the vest and belt it has eliminated both of my issues by giving me a shape and by hiding my bra straps.  It also gives me the added benefit of giving the outfit a little more depth and interest.Queen Amidala Inspired look in a LOFT dressOutfit Details:

While I selected Padme Amidala, Hailey chose to be inspired with two looks by Princess Leia and Han Solo from Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars InspiredI love her feminine take on the male costume inspiration.  The black vest is so on trend right now and paired with flirty blue skirt just takes this outfit to perfection.  Then this green flowy top is so reminiscent of Leia’s camouflage poncho it is unreal.  Both looks are so current and I am super impressed.  I need to know where she got that necklace in the second look!

Be sure to stop by and check out her full post.  I love how we were both able to take costumes from our favorite movies and make a wearable look for everyday.

Today’s Postivity Note

Everything in life is easier when you don’t concern yourself with what everybody else is doing.

  1. I just have to pat us on the back because I think we did a really great job and made some fun looks! I love your summery take on Amidala. The combo of textures and pattern/embellishments is just so fun and fantastic. The little nods to her costume are delightful. Any time you want to do this again, I am all for it!

    1. I think this collab post turned out amazing! I was a little nervous because all my fav looks from the movies were ultra winter. I am so pleased with how it turned out. I so want to do this again!
