SPIN the PIN: Show & Pastel

Last month, I participated in iCurvy‘s SPIN the PIN challenge and I had such a blast participating with all the other bloggers and fashionistas, I wanted to be a part of June’s challenge as well.  Jo has a unique style that is fashionable yet attainable.  She has a unique way of pairing items together, so if you do not follow her already, I would highly recommend you do.  You will not be disappointed!

This month’s inspiration is of an all pastel color blocked look.  To see the photo Jo selected (and perhaps join the challenge yourself) check out her post SPIN the PIN: June Challenge Pin reveal.  Wanting to stick to the all solid look, I had to dig deep as I do not have a whole lot of pastels in my wardrobe.  What I loved about the inspiration outfit was the color combination of mint, peach, and lavender (and just a tad of white).  The details like the tie on the blouse and the texture on the hosiery and handbag keep the look from falling flat.  That was something I wanted to carry over into my look.

Spin the Pin Show and Pastel A

Since I have no pastel colored bottoms, I opted to go with my trusty white denim cropped pants.  A gauzy mint popover top with tonal embroidery in an Aztec pattern was selected to fit the color and texture elements from the inspiration.  One of my favorite elements about this top is the hemline and how it comes up over the hips and down in the front and back.

Then, the star of the show is the necklace.  This beauty has been my most complimented jewelry piece whenever I wear it in public.  I was hesitant to purchase it at first due to its higher price point, but it has proven to be one of my go to necklaces in the spring and summer months.  It fills all the color criteria with peach, mint, and a bit more saturated purple than lavender, but you get the point.  My peach and gold cocktail ring adds a little more punch to this look too.

Spin the Pin Show and Pastel E

Like my last SPIN the PIN: Neutrals and Texture, this outfit contains items that I have had in my closet for quite some time and I am pleased to have inspiration to style them in a new way.  As much as I wanted to have a layering piece, the weather here in Southern California has warmed up a bit, so the necklace layer was all I could take.

Spin the Pin Show and Pastel D

Being a little more literal from the inspiration, but seasonal appropriate, I selected my straw fedora rather than a felt one.  And I also am admitting to switching out to some pointy toe flats half way through the day. 🙂  This look may not be as polished or as sophisticated as the Pin, but this casual outfit fits my lifestyle and I really wanted to tackle these challenges with what I already own.

I love to read your comments!

  1. Another month… Another fabulous spin. I love the way you’ve made it your own style. That necklace is really fab – an investment piece worth every cent 😉 thanks for joining in! X

    1. Thank you! It was a tricky one and I am so glad I did it to have this look in my outfit memory banks as I am sure I will be repeating it again this summer.

  2. Guess whose using the hubby’s evening work time to try to do some catching up? I love this look! I love the pattern and texture on the top and how you kept the ensemble light and breezy. It looks polished but comfortable and fun. And that necklace is great!

    1. Thank you Hailey. This top is a favorite and I hope it shows on camera as beautiful as it is in person. I get stopped all day long every time I wear this necklace by ladies asking where it is from. I used to have an “unconscious” rule of not spending over a certain amount of money on certain things and for some reason last year I just let that go. I still don’t go crazy wild spending money, but sometimes I just need to splurge on items I really love and this necklace was one of them.
