Feeling My Best

Maxi Skirt as a Dress with Patterned Bomber Jacket

I know it is nothing new to use a maxi skirt as a dress, but this is the first time I have done it.  When I posted about this jacket a few weeks ago I did a collage showing three more ways to wear it upon request of a reader.  One of those looks was with a navy maxi dress that I had planned on using a maxi skirt + tee to mimic the idea.  When it came time to actually wear it, I thought that it would be just as easy to just use the skirt, ultimately creating a midi dress by just pulling the waist up over the bust and adding a belt.  I love this wide double buckle one I found at TJMaxx a while ago.

I ended up liking this look even better than my original plan because the shorter length allowed me to show off one of my favorite pairs of shoes that I have shown several times already here on the blog.  These tasseled sandals are getting a lot of use.  Since the bomber jacket has a jewel neckline, I wore a wood bead necklace on top of the jacket instead of it being under which would hide most of it.  This outfit was insanely comfortable and I just swished around all day.  This gives this jacket a totally different look and the outfit as a whole gives a dressy boho vibe that I love.Maxi Skirt as a Dress with Patterned Bomber Jacket

I have always dressed the way I show here on Designing From My Closet, but now since beginning the blog, I have become more aware of how people in person, especially women, react to the way I dress.  I went to the grocery store at the end of the day to pick up a few items and as I was waiting in line, two ladies were checking out in front of me.  As they chatted, the one closest to me saw me out of the corner of her eye and stopped to turn and look at me.  She smiled and I smiled back, then she looked like she was a bit dumbfounded and I was wondering what happened.  After glancing back at her friend she turned back to me and gave me a lovely compliment on my outfit.  She then proclaimed to her friend that they should be dressing this way as she looked down at their leggings and t-shirts.Sam & Libby Arianna Gladiator Sandals

Now I am not sharing this story to give props to myself, but rather show women how a little effort goes a long way.  I bet you I was just as physically comfortable as these legging clad ladies, perhaps even more, but I was also even more emotionally comfortable as I felt very confident in this rather casual look.  I have absolutely nothing bad to say about these sweet lovelies who were nothing but kind to me as they wished me a good day and I reciprocated.  I am no better than them because of the difference of our apparel.  I do however, hope that I inspired them to treat themselves to feeling their best.  There is nothing over the top with my outfit, no huge money spent, but there is a bit of thought and ingenuity behind it.  It helped me face the day and all the tasks I needed to do with a sense of purpose and intent.  I know I have said this before, and I will say it again that I encourage all women of all shapes and sizes to take some time for yourself to put your best foot forward.  I am saying this for the benefit of yourself, not to show off to others how great you look, rather to start the day off feeling great about yourself.
