Although I certainly struggle with having basics in my wardrobe, one item that has always had a place in my closet are white tops. I especially keep an eye out for those that have special details that keep them from being boring, but can still be a supporting piece to those bolder jackets and cardigans that I have. Here are some of the things I look for when I shop for this perfect layering piece.
The lace on the shoulders and front panel are subtle enough to go with a colored or patterned layer. I love how the front panel is so slimming and lengthening. This could easily be worn by itself too when temps become too hot.
The button and tucked detail embellishments make this top have more emphasis to the neck and face while the sleeveless factor keeps it easy to pull jackets on and off without bunching.
I like the options that this tie offers. Wearing it loose and undone like the model is casual and easy, while the many ways of tying it can make it much more dressy and sophisticated.
The asymmetrical ruffle on this top is so flattering along with the swooping hem line. It shows that ruffles do not have to be fussy.
Although this top is not what most people consider a top with ruffles, I love the way it “ruffles” around the hips and torso area. The swing style and tonal embroidery work give a simple top some very nice interest.
The flowey fabric drew me to this top. I especially love the slit in the front and center of the top ruffle layer that gives that lovely elongation effect.
This top is so beyond feminine and waist flattering. I love the wrap style that elongates the neckline.
The pleats under the chest detail creates a soft peplum on this gauzy top. I just love how it would just skim right over that little tummy roll of mine!
This top is almost like a short version of a beautiful white dress. The belt just adds that waist emphasis and the peplum flairs over the tummy and hips.
