Casual Boho

Casual BohoOne of my gifts that my husband gave me for Christmas was a Target gift card.  I honestly thought that I was not going to find anything clothes wise since the items in store have really been a disappointment to me.  I don’t think he has noticed that I had not been shopping there for clothing for quite some time.  I decided to take my search online.  As an inexperienced online shopper, I was leery about what the items I ordered would actually look like.  Since they were offering free shipping, I decided to take the plunge and order a couple dresses and a skirt.

I was super excited when the package arrived and I felt like it was Christmas day all over again as I ripped open the bag.  One of the items I ordered was the Merona Women’s Creme Shift Dress with Tie in the Drizzle Gray Print.  When I first put it on the dress, I was really unsure.  The tie really did nothing for my figure.  When I modeled it for the hubby, he said he liked it and that I should keep it.  Then I started styling it and found several ways to enhance the fun boho pattern.

It is so funny whenever I go to take pictures at this time of the morning, I get little sunlight “halos”.  I love the effect without special filters!

For a casual look, I paired the dress with my denim jacket, turquoise necklace, bone bangle, & nude flats.

It has been unusually warm (again, after a short “cold” stint aka upper 50’s/lower 60’s) here in Southern California so I was able to wear this and feel totally comfortable.  Sorry blog buddies who are feeling the arctic weather lately!  And pardon the very winter white legs, the self tanner regimen has gone to the way side recently.  I think this dress will be used a lot during the spring and summer months ahead with hopefully tanner legs.

I posted on Instagram another way I am thinking of styling the dress with a ruffled front short sleeved cardigan that has a hook that connects under the bust.  My trusty stone slice necklace gives the look a little more dressy vintage look.

Styling Notes: I am wearing the XXL & I typically wear a 16/18.  I am 5’5″ and the hem reaches just at the knee.

  1. I love this look! Definitely something I would wear! I feel like my style swings between sweet/feminine looks and quirky/funky looks. I really like how you pulled the various blues out of the print and used them in your jacket and necklace. It feels aquatic and western and bohemian all at once. I love eclectic looks like this because they seem to bridge so many styles and themes.

I haven’t bought clothes from Target in quite some time, but I did buy a dress there several years ago that I wore to death. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how their XL and XXL sizes fit on me.

Also – have you heard about their Lilly Pulitzer collection that launches in April? All of the clothing will be made in a full range of sizes up to a size 26! I think I’m more excited about the home decor, though. I love the colorful, whimsical prints!

  2. I haven’t bought clothes from Target in awhile because the stores have been disappointing to me too, but this is SO pretty! This is totally something I would wear too!

  3. Such a cute a look and I’m glad you kept the dress, the print is really pretty and fits your boho style. I think pairing it with the jean jacket works really well and don’t you just love how the weather warms up and then get cold but never too cold here in California that we can bare legs all year round! hehe But yeah my closet used to be full of Target clothing but I haven’t bought anything from there in a long time because I haven’t been too impressed by their clothes. But I am excited for the upcoming collaboration that Liz is talking about, I need to add some fun colorful pieces to my wardrobe. 🙂
