You know that moment you purchase something that you need to wear for a party in a hurry thinking that item will be something you will use again. Well, for me it was a pair of micro suede black wedges from Payless several years ago. These guys have been sitting in my closet collecting dust after the one use at the party. They seem so practical. Basic color, basic shape. I think that may be my issue…basic. I am really not a basic dresser. So before donating these, I wanted to try something that would make these heels a stand out.
On a shopping trip to Target, I found these permanent chalk markers in white in the scrapbook section. It was the perfect solution to place a pattern on the black shoes.
I went to work making dash marks all around the shoe and creating an illusion criss-cross on the top of the toe.
The whole process was a bit tedious, but after about an hour, I had both shoes covered and wallah, new shoes!
To see how I styled these shoes with an outfit, see my Style SOS post (they are in Look 3, so scroll down). I absolutely love how simple and easy it was to transform these unused shoes from my closet. The pattern gives a funky vibe that I really like. They could go a little tribal or a little art deco. Now I am sure these shoes will no longer be collecting dust.
I am linking up with Shelia over on Ephemera for her Shoe Shine series. If you have not checked her out, she is an amazing woman with a big personality who puts together fabulous looks with vintage, thrifted, 2nd hand, & local (to her Canada) items.
Have you ever purchased something because it was a “basic” only to realize you never wear it?
