I cannot believe I have only been blogging on Designing From My Closet for only a few months and already have met such wonderful ladies online. Writing here has been a great way for me to express myself and I appreciate all of you who read along. It has been a whirlwind of a season with Christmas and the soon approaching New Year that has made my writing schedule a bit off. I have noticed that many other bloggers have done the same thing and taken a little break from the usual, which I see as a good thing. Everyone needs a break and time to spend with family and friends.
This Christmas I was so spoiled by family who gave me wonderful gifts. The highlight was spending leisurely time with them, laughing loudly, and eating way too much! That was truly the best gift of all.
My husband surprised me with a much needed curling iron. But this is no ordinary curling iron, no! It is the Kiss InstaWave Automatic Curler.
I needed this so badly because my old cheapo iron was literally crumbling and I was afraid it was going to fall apart every day. Because I typically curl my hair every morning, this guy has proved to be my savior. It did not take me long to figure out the automatic mechanism and before I knew it, my hair was curled in half the time it usually takes me. Not only that, it made so much nicer curls than my old iron. I continue, it did not break my hair like my old one because there is no hinge for hair to get caught in, my hair was SUPER shiny probably due to the diamond-ceramic and ionic technology, and the waves/curls lasted all day. I actually looked great going to bed!
Here is a before and after shot. I love the loose beachy waves it creates. Perfect for living in a beach town like me!
He also got me some Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in the Redwood Forest color. I am a gloss girl and this is the perfect lip color for me. It goes on sheer and feels like that wonderful Burt’s Bees lip balm, but yet the color is vibrant without being overpowering. I have issues with that since I am so fair, it seems like light gloss just disappears while lip stick looks way too harsh.
He also got me a Target gift card & a couple things have already been ordered. I can’t wait to show you!
My MIL & FIL gave me two beautiful necklaces. They are so bohemian and colorful. The first one has mixed media beads with a medallion and the second one has fun burgundy tassels with blue and brown beads.
My sister in law & brother in law gave me a really nice wide brown braided belt that will replace a belt I have worn so many times the braid had torn where the belt prong goes through, so this will be used a lot.
They also got me this stunning coral scarf. It is super soft and gauzy. I absolutely love the color!
Then I was super excited when I opened up a ity bity box to find a custom made initial necklace from them as well. I have been wanting something like this for a long time. It is so simple, but I just love the delicate gold chain, J initial, & tiny turquoise bead.
Then the MK box was placed in front of me. My niece and her husband gifted me this gorgeous Michael Kors navy wristlet. It is so buttery soft and the color is just beautiful. It has places for cards so you can double it as a wallet.
This past weekend I was already able to sport a few of my thoughtful gifts.
First was the coral scarf on Saturday.
Gray Tee: Gap Outlet | Gray Jacket: Loft | Olive Pants: Lane Bryant | Leopard Sneakers: Target via Orange County Goodwill | Coral Scarf: Forever 21 (Gift)
Second was the wide braided belt, beaded medallion necklace, & MK wristlet on Sunday.
Dress: Macy’s | Jean Blazer: Unknown via Petticoat Lane Consignment | Beaded Medallion Necklace: Pier 1 Imports (Gift) | Wide Brown Braided Belt: Target (Gift) | Navy Wristlet: Michael Kors (Gift) | Brown Riding Boots: No Rest for Bridget
And yes, this is the third time you have seen this Macy’s dress and the gazillionth time you have seen these riding boots!
Now looking forward to 2015…I am calling it the BIG YEAR! The reason behind that is I have two major milestones happening in my life: My 40th birthday in April and my 20th wedding anniversary in July. Like I said BIG.
As far as Designing From My Closet goes I have big plans.
-I have a recap to do on my experience with the 30 Days No Shopping Challenge I participated in. (I found it to be rather Bah Humbug to write about this topic during the holiday gift season.)
-There are two ReFashion projects I am currently working on and have several more in mind that I want to share with you.
-I am going to be collaborating with other bloggers which is very exciting for me!
-I really want to show you my transition into my new-found personal style of Vintage Bohemian. I kind of feel like my outfits do not reflect what I really want to show the world.
-Focus more on tips for dressing when short-waisted.
-I recently completed an interior design project that I really want to share with you!
-More Anthropologie Style Plus Size Clothing posts.
-Expand my existing vintage home decor Etsy shop to carry vintage jewelry & vintage plus size clothing (maybe?), but yes on the jewelry.
-As much as I love just preparing and writing this blog, I have found there is a lot of time that goes into each post, even just a simple outfit post. Taking pictures, editing, writing, figuring out code, the list goes on. I am still figuring out this whole posing thing and I hope I do not look too awkward. With this being said, I am going to pursue having affiliate links & perhaps in the future have sponsored and/or gifted posts to offset the time and resources I am using to produce posts.
-I have more ideas, but this list could go on and on.
I really want to thank all of you for following me and I hope just to get bigger and better (hopefully not bigger in the weight department! Those holiday pounds really need to come off.) I hope you all had a merry Christmas and I wish all of you a wonderful 2015.
So what did you get for Christmas? What would you like to see here?
